Hidden behind modest walls in Fener sits one of the most important churches in the Eastern Orthodox world. The Cathedral Church of St. George serves as the seat of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, the spiritual leader of millions of Orthodox Christians worldwide.

Bulgarian Orthodox Church of Saint Stephen
Few visitors expect to find one of the world’s rare prefabricated cast-iron churches in Istanbul. Saint Stephen’s Church, often called the Bulgarian Iron Church, was manufactured in Vienna in the 19th century before being transported piece by piece to Istanbul and assembled beside the Golden Horn.
